In my loneliness and solitude I cried out in anguish:
“What about me? I am the forgotten one left in the black hole of misery and defeat. The one for whom everyone has an answer. I am the one whose fear rises up and conquerors me. The same one that tells me that this isn’t right but then goes back to justify it. I’m the one who says enough but stays around to take some more. I’m the one who wants new life but the one that’s scared to live. One foot in and one foot out….what about me?”
The wonderful thing about a New Year is a new beginning. You get a chance to reassess the past year and see how life has gotten better or worse. You get to start over. Sometimes the first step is the hardest one to take on the road to recovery. “Therefore old things are passed away….” Remember that the past is yesterday. It’s behind you but what lies ahead of you when you choose to walk with the Lord is the path to peace and wholeness. It’s where the new you and the new life await you. Don’t let fear keep you where you are. You are never alone. When you feel the walls closing in on you look up and remember that He said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hold your head up high and remember that with every step you take forward you are smashing the plans of the enemy. The bible says in John 10:10 that “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy.” If you are living a life that includes addiction, abuse, bitterness, hatred, uncontrollable anger….the list goes on then you are living a life of destruction. Your life is being robbed. You deserve better and you can have better. Later in that same verse Jesus says, “The gift of God is eternal life.” Life is a gift and one that we should treasure. Choose today to walk away from destruction and into the gift of life. It’s time for a change.
